Navigating NDIS Housing Options: Exploring the Path to Independent Living
At MyLife Housing, we believe that the journey to independent living should be guided by clear information, real choice and the right supports. That’s why we were proud to co-host an event centred on Navigating National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Housing Options last week at our Schofields property, designed to help participants, families and professionals better understand their options across Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), Supported Independent Living (SIL), and Individualised Living Options (ILO).
We were thrilled to partner with two leading organisations who share our vision: Allara Support Services, a trusted Supported Independent Living (SIL) provider, and Hireup, a platform empowering people to build their own teams of support workers. Together, we created a space for attendees to ask questions, learn and gain clarity on what housing under the NDIS can look like.
Breaking down SDA, SIL & ILO:
Throughout the session, we unpacked three key areas that often shape the housing journey:
SDA – what it is, the different design categories, and what’s involved in accessing funding
SIL – when it’s appropriate, what the support looks like day-to-day, and how to work with providers
ILO – a flexible approach to living arrangements and how it’s explored, designed and funded
The session created a space for honest, practical discussion, and attendees were encouraged to ask questions, share stories and connect with others navigating similar decisions.
Pat from our team shared insights into how SDA can provide both independence and support. We talked through the features of our apartments, the different SDA design categories we offer - including High Physical Support (HPS), Improved Liveability (IL), Robust and Fully Accessible (FA) - and how we work alongside support providers to create long-term homes that feel personal, practical and empowering.
Allara Support Services offered their perspective as a leading SIL provider - and as the onsite SIL partner in several MyLife Housing properties. They discussed how support models can be tailored to meet the diverse needs of every participant, sharing the various services that they offer, such as Onsite Overnight Assistance (OOA) and one-on-one support.
Hireup, who support people in ILO arrangements, spoke about how their platform helps people build and manage their own team of support workers, putting choice and control back in the hands of participants. Their person-centred approach sparked thoughtful discussion about how to align supports with the moments that matter most in everyday life.

After the presentations, guests were invited to tour one of our brand-new SDA apartments right here in Schofields.
